New Sewer force mains were installed to accommodate the reconstruction of the Q-Bridge. The existing force mains, owned and operated by the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority, were abandoned and left in place. The new force mains were installed away from the bridge to the north, which eliminates the need to protect and monitor them under the harbor and eliminates restrictions on the contractor's construction sequencing and operations including barge setup and mooring during construction of the new SB Q-Bridge Main Span and East Approach Structure in Contract B.
