Contract B encompasses approximately 0.8 miles (1,300 meters) of I-95 in the City of New Haven. In both directions, full shoulders and a new median barrier will be constructed and new drainage, signing, and lighting will be installed.
Contract Details
- A New Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge: The Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge will be replaced with a new, 10-lane signature bridge crossing the Quinnipiac River in New Haven. The bridge extends from abutments at East Street and Hamilton Street at the west approach to an abutment at Stiles Street at the east approach.
The main harbor crossing of the new bridge will be an extradosed bridge, the first of its kind in the United States. Extradosed bridges have structural characteristics similar to concrete box girder and cable-stayed bridges and have been successful for several years in both Europe and Japan. See how the bridge will be built.
- Five Lanes Over the Bridge: Five travel lanes will be provided in each direction from the bridge's west approach to a reconfigured/combined Woodward Avenue/Stiles Street interchange at the east approach.
- Stiles Street Ramps: The existing Stiles Street on- and off-ramps will be closed.
- Stiles Street Bridge: The new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will be extended to the Stiles Street overpass.

- Security Lighting - A total of 16 metal halide pier lighting fixtures will be used below the bridge deck to illuminate the lower portion of the piers and bases.

- Cable Lighting - A total of 11 metal-halide lamps will illuminate each of the 16 cable blocks.
- Span Lighting - reflective material instead of lighting fixtures will be used on deck wall surfaces.
- Memorial Lighting - Three Xenon lamp beam tracker lights at each of the center two towers will point up toward the sky for use on select holidays.
