Project Area: Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge

Project Scope: Contract B consists of the replacement of the existing Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge with a new extradosed 10 lane signature bridge. The project encompasses approximately 1,300 meters (0.8 miles) of I-95 from the western project limit at the abutment at East Street and Hamilton Street to the eastern project limit at the Stiles Street abutment. Five travel lanes will be provided in each direction from the bridges west approach to a reconfigured/combined Woodward Avenue/Stiles Street interchange at the east approach. The new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will be extended to include the Stiles Street overpass. Full shoulders, a new median barrier, drainage, signing, and lighting will be provided throughout the project.

Notice to Proceed - Part 1 (Administrative): September 14, 2009
Notice to Proceed - Part 2 (Construction): November 27, 2009
Construction Completion Date: June 30, 2015

Progress Summary:
Construction activities for October 2011 included:

  • Deck pours continued for the I-95 NB approach to Anchor 1 and are scheduled to be complete by the end of November.
  • Continued concrete pours for bridge deck segments spanning the Quinnipiac River. The first seven deck segments are complete on the Tower Piers.
  • Began installation of cable stay pipes, which will house the cable stays. The first cable stay is currently scheduled to be installed in November.
Milestones:

  • The first cable stay installation is scheduled to occur in November 2011.

Contract News

Contract B encompasses approximately 0.8 miles (1,300 meters) of I-95 in the City of New Haven. In both directions, full shoulders and a new median barrier will be constructed and new drainage, signing, and lighting will be installed.
