Project Name, Contract Number: Contract E2, State Project No. 92-619

Project Area: Route 34 Flyover Bridge

Project Scope: Contract E2, located in New Haven, consists of the construction of the I-95 NB to Route 34 WB 'flyover' bridge as well as interchange construction of I-95/I-91/Route 34.

A second lane will be added between I-91 SB and I-95 SB. To accommodate the new two-lane interstate-to-interstate connection the Sargent Drive ramp at Exit 46 will be relocated appromimately 1500 feet to the west.

Contract Award: September 17, 2008
Construction Start: October 22, 2008
Construction Complete: November 30, 2011

Progress Summary:
Construction Activities for May 2010 included:

  • Route 34 'Flyover' Bridge:  Continued erection of structural steel girders.
  • Route 34 WB Bridge over Brewery Street: Completed stage 1 installation of concrete bridge deck and shifted traffic onto new bridge.
  • I-95 Bridge over Long Wharf Drive Extension: Began installation of stay-in-place (sip) deck forms and reinforcing.
  • Installed new overhead sign truss and mounted new signs over I-95 near Long Wharf.

Contract News

The new 'flyover' bridge will improve traffic operations in the area, as well as simplify traffic maintenance during interchange construction.
