Details of the contract are as follows:

The Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge will be replaced with a new, 10-lane signature bridge crossing the Quinnipiac River in New Haven. The bridge extends from abutments at East Street and Hamilton Street at the west approach to an abutment at Stiles Street at the east approach.

The main harbor crossing of the new bridge will be an extradosed bridge, the first of its kind in the United States. Extradosed bridges have structural characteristics similar to concrete box girder and cable-stayed bridges and have been successful for several years in both Europe and Japan. The bridge is being designed in both steel and concrete. Note: the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge is still in the design phase and will be modified from the renderings shown here. See how the bridge will be built.

  2. Five Lanes Over the Bridge: Five travel lanes will be provided in each direction from the bridge's west approach to a reconfigured/combined Woodward Avenue/Stiles Street interchange at the east approach.

  3. Stiles Street Ramps: The existing Stiles Street on- and off-ramps will be closed.

  4. Stiles Street Bridge: The new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge will be
extended to the Stiles Street overpass.

See how the bridge will be lit.
