TRANSIT IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

To make mass transit a feasible alternative to the single-occupancy vehicle, steps are being taken to improve transit services in the New Haven region. They include:

  • Construction of a new State Street commuter rail station, serving Shore Line East and limited Metro North trains, with convenient access to downtown New Haven.

  • Improvements to Shore Line East stations in Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton and Westbrook to meet the region's transit standards.

  • Expanded Shore Line East commuter rail service: trains arrive in New Haven more frequently - every half-hour - during the peak morning commute. Ridership and service frequencies will be monitored regularly to determine the need for service modifications

  • Expansion and/or enhancement of bus service to the east shore as commuter
    usage warrants.

  • Improved transit, carpool and vanpool marketing and enhanced distribution of transit schedules and related information.

  • Outreach to area employers to encourage flextime work schedules, voluntary rideshare (HOV) preferential parking, and public and private carpool matching.
The “Record of Decision Summary Report” summarizes the current implementation of these Transit and Transportation System Management (TSM) components.
