To make mass transit a feasible alternative to the single-occupancy
vehicle, steps are being taken to improve transit services in
the New Haven region. They include:
- Construction of a new State
Street commuter rail station, serving Shore Line East and
limited Metro North trains, with convenient access to downtown
New Haven.
- Improvements to Shore
Line East stations in Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton
and Westbrook to meet the region's transit standards.
- Expanded Shore Line East commuter rail service: trains arrive
in New Haven more frequently - every half-hour - during the peak
morning commute. Ridership and service frequencies will be monitored
regularly to determine the need for service modifications
- Expansion and/or enhancement of bus service to the east shore
as commuter
usage warrants.
- Improved transit, carpool and vanpool marketing and enhanced
distribution of transit schedules and related information.
- Outreach to area employers to encourage flextime work schedules,
voluntary rideshare (HOV) preferential parking, and public and
private carpool matching.
