The Connecticut
Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) is improving traffic
operations along Interstate 95 in Greater New Haven. ConnDOT's
I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing (NHHC) Corridor Improvement Program
is a multi-modal transportation improvement program that features
public transit enhancements and roadway improvements along 7.2
miles (11.5 km) of I-95, between Exit 46 (Sargent Drive) in New
Haven and Exit 54 (Cedar Street) in Branford. The Program includes
a major signature structure for Connecticut - the new Pearl Harbor
Memorial Bridge. Throughout the reconstructed corridor an architectural
theme, featuring coordinated color and design elements, has been
incorporated into designs. This is the State's second implementation
of architectural design guidelines for a corridor (the Merritt
Parkway being the first).

The existing Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge
opened for operation in 1958 to accommodate

by the year 2015.
ConnDOT and the Federal

Central Regional Council of Governments
(COG) and other federal and local
agencies to develop an acceptable strategy
to address transit and transportation
needs in the corridor. The Program includes:
