To assist ConnDOT with design and construction planning, Parsons Brinckerhoff has been secured as Program Manager for the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program. Partners on each of the contracts include:

CLOSE, JENSEN AND MILLER, P.C. (CJM) For over 75 years, Close, Jensen and Miller (CJM) has provided engineering, design, survey and planning services in Connecticut. The Wethersfield-based firm is designing Contract C of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program. CJM has provided engineering and design services for various projects in the state, including recently the widening of I-84 in Waterbury/Cheshire; reconstruction of Route 2A in Montville; and construction of Mile Hill Road in Newtown. CJM received the FHWA National Quality Initiative Achievement Award for their design of Route 17 over Allyns Brook in Durham, which incorporated an existing stone arch bridge into a new single-span concrete deck unit structure.   [ top ]

H.W. LOCHNER, Inc. Lochner is a national transportation engineering and planning company based in Chicago, IL. The company is completing the design of Contract E of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program and will be providing Construction Engineering and Inspection for the Q-Bridge sections of the corridor. Throughout the country, Lochner has completed some nationally recognized projects in the areas of Roadway and Bridge Design, Design-Build, CEI, CSS, Transportation Engineering and Planning. The firm has worked in Connecticut for 45 years and has completed several noteworthy projects. Beyond the previously noted NHHC Corridor assignments, two additional Connecticut projects are: On-Call Services for the Rails Unit from 2000 during which time Lochner completed not less than 30 assignments and the Construction Inspection of the Columbus Boulevard Whitehead Highway Project, which was key to the opening of the Hartford Convention Center. Parsons Brinckerhoff. Parsons Brinckerhoff, founded in 1885, is one of the oldest continuously operating engineering firms in the world. Recognized as a leader in all sectors of the design, planning and construction industries, PB is employee-owned and has close to 9,000 people in more than 250 offices on six continents. PB is Program Manager of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program. Other Connecticut projects include the new Sikorsky Bridge over the Housatonic River (Milford/Stratford), Church Street South Extension (New Haven), I-95 reconstruction (Bridgeport), the Route15/Route 11 single point interchange (Trumbull), and the Baldwin Bridge over the Connecticut River (Old Saybrook/Old Lyme).  [ top ]

PARSONS Parsons Transportation Group (PTG) is an all-purpose design and engineering firm that has received worldwide acclaim for its dramatic bridge designs. The company, founded in 1944, has offices in all 50 states and in 80 foreign countries. In addition to designing Contract D of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program, PTG developed environmental documents to support alternative solutions to the Q-Bridge and related interchange problems. Other New England projects include Boston's Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel; Adriaen's Landing in Hartford; Point Street Bridge in Providence and the reconstruction of Route 7 in Danbury and Ridgefield.  [ top ]

URS URS is a worldwide planning, engineering, architectural, and construction management firm, with more than 300 offices in 30 countries. URS is designing the new I-95 Pearl Harbor Memorial "Q" Bridge in New Haven as part of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program. The bridge will be the first "extradosed" (cable-stayed type structure) in the country. URS has worked on numerous projects in Connecticut, with recent projects including: I-95 resurfacing and median reconstruction in Westport, Darien and Norwalk; Route 9 in Middletown; the Bethel Railroad Station; inspection of the Baldwin Bridge over the Connecticut River, replacement of the Blake Street Bridge in New Haven, and a state-wide railroad bridge assessment.  [ top ]

BLAKESLEE ARPAIA CHAPMAN Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman (BAC) may be the oldest heavy construction company in the country. Founded in 1844, the firm provides a variety of design-build services and is comprised of four divisions: Marine, Heavy Construction, Rigging and Millwright, and Hauling. Work on the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program has included construction of the new State Street Commuter Rail Station and pile load testing for foundation design of the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge and structures for the new I-95/I-91/Route 34 interchange. BAC built many portions of the Merritt Parkway, the original Tomlinson Bridge in New Haven, the concrete deck of the existing Q Bridge, and the Cape Cod Canal Bridges. The Marine Division is currently completing reconstruction of the eastern portion of Connecticut's State Pier in New London. [ top ]

O & G INDUSTRIES, INC. O & G was formed in 1923 and has evolved into the largest full-service construction conglomerate in the State of Connecticut. The company houses five divisions: Heavy Civil, Building, Power, Environmental and Construction Materials. In addition, O & G has its own plants and quarries that provide a wide variety of clays, stone, sand, asphalt and concrete products that can be custom made to meet any specification.

Through the years, O & G has worked for and with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Corps of Engineers, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and a host of corporate clients, maintaining relationships with individuals from every state agency. The company has also participated in out-of-state projects ranging in size from 30 million to 750 million dollars. [ top ]

THE MIDDLESEX COMPANIES The Massachusetts-based Middlesex Companies (TMC) is known for heavy civil, site and utility construction, environmental remediation, railroad, marine, power and wastewater plants, and bituminous concrete production and installation. TMC, with a regional office in Bristol, was selected as contractor for Contract D of the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program. The 30-year-old firm has constructed numerous projects in New England, with recent Connecticut projects including I-84 WB/Route 72 ramp relocation in Plainville; Route 6 in Columbia; and the Department of Public Works Power Plant in New Britain. TMC is currently constructing the Fore River Bridge in Quincy, Massachusetts, which features the largest temporary lift span bridge in the country.
